The birthday of the battery
Every year on February 18, people celebrate the World Battery Day - the invention that changed the world and made possible the creation of the car. This date is the birthday of the Italian scientist-physicist, one of the founders of the theory of electricity and chemist Alessandro Volta. He invented the first battery in 1800, which was called the Voltaic pile. It was a device that converted chemical energy into electrical energy by placing two different metals (copper and zinc plates) in acid. Since then, batteries have become an integral part of our daily life. They are used in various devices: from mobile phones to cars and spacecraft. However, we need to remember that used batteries can harm the environment and human health if they are not disposed of properly. Most batteries contain dangerous chemicals that pollute the soil and water when they get into nature. Every year, about 10 billion batteries are produced in the world, but only about 10% of them are recycled properly. To prevent environmental pollution from batteries, we need to dispose of them correctly. There are many ways to recycle them, including reuse, extraction of valuable materials and neutralization of hazardous components. There are also many programs for collecting and disposing of used batteries, which help to prevent them from getting into nature.
